it’s sunday, june 9, & moon is in the starspace of leo called purva phalguni. leo brings the fire to express our individual power. it fosters creativity, our unique expression, & artists of all sorts—painters, writers, actors—are often born under this sign or have significant planets here.
in vedic astrology, you are defined (not the best word, but … ) by the constellation on the eastern horizon when you are born & further delineated by the starspace of that constellation. there are three divisions of leo—magha, purva phalguni & uttara phalguni. i happen to be a purva phalguni leo & i was told by the jyotishi who did my first vedic astrology reading that purva phal is the cat in the hammock. honestly, i was chagrined to hear that b/c she didn’t further elucidate & i took it to mean that i was lazy. beating myself up for being lazy (when i actually wasn’t) was part of my shadow, so i really didn’t need that negativity reinforced—not so helpful!
thank goodness i started studying jyotish & understand that this asterism isn’t about laziness but about taking a timeout to rest on your laurels, luxuriate in the fruits (phal) of your karma. this nakshatra is ruled by bhaga, the god of, yes, bliss, of earthly delight & good fortune. so it’s a good time to see how far your past awesome thoughts-words-deeds have taken you, to enjoy what you have achieved, & to ponder your next steps, to feel into your inner potential.
think of today as a launching pad for your next conquests, as an opportunity to figure out how to do your soul work in the material world, how to discharge your divine responsibilities, your sacred purpose. & remember that you create your karma, what you put out into the world is what you will reap later. in other words:
“your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” (attributed apocryphally to gandhi)
it’s the seventh then eighth phase (tithi) of the waxing moon, so we go from feeling our power to move freely in the world to wanting to create something in accordance with our values.
& that’s your daily bliss—sunday is the sun’s day, of course, so do get outside & move your body, feel your soul(ar) power, soak up some rays & let your inner rays shine, or just hang out in a hammock with your cat & a book!
p.s. jyotish, vedic astrology, is the science of light. if you want to shine more light on your life, understand why you are here & how the planets are guiding you on your path, i’d love to enlighten you—contact me for a session! ~.~
