Master Class & Book Party with Sharon Gannon
You Don’t Want to Miss This!
Sharon Gannon, world-renowned yogini and master teacher, is nothing less than a 21st-century Renaissance woman. The founder, along with David Life, of the Jivamukti Yoga Method — a vigorous vinyasa practice that incorporates ahimsa, scriptural study, devotion, meditation and music — she is an animal rights and vegan activist as well as a chef, poet, musician, dancer, singer, choreographer and producer.
Sharon received critical acclaim for the CD Neti-Neti and has been a featured vocalist on many other CDs (with Bill Laswell, Mike D., Sean Dinsmore, David Newman, Shyam das and DJ Cheb I Sabbah), including Sharanam, her 2010 solo album. She has produced numerous yoga-related DVDs and is the author of several books, including Jivamukti Yoga: Practices for Liberating Body & Soul, The Art of Yoga, Cats and Dogs Are People Too!, and Yoga Assists.
Sharon has devoted many years to exploring the role of diet in promoting physical, emotional and mental well-being as well as spiritual development. Her book Yoga and Vegetarianism has been called the “seminal” work on the subject, exploring the relationship of veganism to the teachings of yoga. In 2006, Sharon Gannon and David Life opened the Jivamuktea Café as a living expression of how compassionate spiritual activism can be put to practical use. The peaceful ambiance, the camaraderie and, most of all, the delicious, hearty fare struck a chord with patrons who were thrilled to eliminate meat and dairy from their diets without sacrificing taste. Now, in Simple Recipes for Joy, Sharon shares the secrets of the café’s acclaimed menu — and also showcases the recipes she’s been making at home for family and friends for decades.
Speaking of showcases: The book launch in September, at the Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York, was a truly mad-joyful affair, featuring an original production by Sharon, David and violinist Tim Fein of the maddest mad hatter tea party anyone ever attended. Check it out:
“Sharon is my Guru — I like eating anything she’s dishing out. Her teachings on yoga and veganism have positively transformed my life. She is not only an example of someone who walks the talk, but she excels in so many areas — teacher, philosopher, activist, artist, musician and cook — showing us all that through devotion to God one can become a divine instrument and with God’s great love all is possible.”
— Russell Simmons, philanthropist and businessman
“Sharon’s food nourishes AND enlightens. As a longtime devoted fan of her Jivamuktea Café and her yoga teachings, I can’t wait to experiment with her alchemy at home. She’s finally given up her secrets.”
— Darren Aronofsky, film director
